ASUU declares one month rollover warning strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has declared a month  “roll-over” strike.

The President of the Union Prof.

Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed this to Voice of Nigeria in a telephone conversation on Monday on issues of implementation of re-negotiated MOU between the Federal Government and the Union.

Osodeke also confirmed that the National Executive Council NEC of ASUU voted in favour of the strike on Monday morning, at a meeting that lasted several hours in Lagos State.

While speaking to VON , Prof.

Osodeke said the declared industrial action is called a roll-over strike, he added that it will be for only 4weeks and if at the end of the one month and the Union is not called for discussion it would be rolled over.

“We call this strike a roll over if at the end of this one month and if nothing happens we roll over”
“The government know why we have embarked on this strike, there is an agreement ,the MOU we signed it should be implemented simple if the government should implement the agreements tomorrow we will call the strike off immediately”
Speaking on the major request to call off the newly declared strike, Prof Osodeke said the federal government refusal to sign the re-negotiated agreement necessitated the strike.

He also said that the refusal of the government to implement the use of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) payroll software was another major reason the members voted in favor of the strike
“UTAS as it is a main platform for the payment of ASUU members salaries is also part of the two critical reasons the Union has embarked on strike”
According to him,” These are the two critical reasons our members are requesting that must be addressed”
The ASUU President confirmed that the UTAS platform has passed the government test and “by there on results it passed the test and we are Surprised why it is yet to be implemented”
He added that the Union is ready to honor any invite to resolve the pending issues.

The ASUU President added that a committee has already been formed to ensure total compliance.
