Astrophysicist Dr Hugh Ross explains why the universe itself might be pointing to a hidden spiritual realm beyond our observable reality

Most of us go through life with a simple understanding: you live, you die, and that’s it.

But what if that’s not the end of the story?

For some, death isn’t the finish line—it’s a doorway into something new.

Some people describe it as changing vehicles, like John Lennon famously said, or as stepping through a dark curtain into a brighter, unimaginable place.

Canadian astrophysicist and Christian author Dr. Hugh Ross believes there’s real evidence that an afterlife—what many call heaven—might actually exist.

And he’s not just talking faith.

He’s pointing to science, near-death experiences, even UFOs.

Let’s break down his five reasons why he thinks something might be waiting for us on the other side.

The Edges of the Universe Might Be Hiding Something Bigger

Dr. Ross starts with a simple but mind-blowing idea: we can’t see the whole universe.

What we can observe stretches about 93 billion light years across and is still expanding.

But what lies beyond that? According to Ross, the fact that there’s a limit to our observation could hint at something outside of space and time—something we’re just not meant to see yet.

He believes this points to a “causal agent”—a Creator—who exists beyond all the physical rules we know.

In his view, the very structure of the universe implies that there’s more than just what meets the eye.

“These theorems establish the necessity of a Creator responsible for creating space, time, and matter,” he says.

Biblical Clues That May Go Beyond Faith

Next, Ross turns to the Bible—not just as a religious text, but as something that might actually align with scientific reality.

He argues that many of the Bible’s historical and scientific references have stood the test of time.

For instance, the Book of Daniel makes predictions about the rise and fall of empires like Babylon and Persia—events later confirmed by historians.

Even more intriguing, Ross claims that some biblical verses describe the Big Bang long before scientists put the theory together.

Take Isaiah 42:5, where it says God “created the heavens and stretched them out.”

Ross says this matches the modern idea that the universe had a beginning and has been expanding ever since.

In his words, this kind of predictive consistency suggests “a Source who transcends the universe.”

Could UFOs Be Signs from Another Dimension?

It might sound far-fetched, but Ross includes UFO encounters as one of his clues.

He says that some of these mysterious sightings show behaviors that seem to defy the laws of physics—like moving without creating sonic booms or turning at impossible angles.

Ross suggests that some of these UFOs might not be physical at all, but rather “extradimensional” or “interdimensional”—existing beyond our understanding of time and space.

In other words, they might offer a glimpse into realities we can’t fully comprehend yet.

He points to other thinkers, like Carl Jung and Jacques Vallée, who have also explored this strange possibility.

Near-Death Experiences That Challenge What We Know About Consciousness

Perhaps one of the most emotional pieces of evidence comes from near-death experiences (NDEs).

These are stories from people who were clinically dead—or extremely close to it—and reported incredible sensations: floating above their bodies, traveling through a tunnel, feeling overwhelming peace, or even seeing glimpses of the future.

Ross acknowledges that some NDEs can be explained away by things like oxygen deprivation in the brain.

But others, he says, are so detailed and consistent that they’re hard to ignore.

He refers to the work of cardiologist Michael Sabom, who went from skeptic to believer after studying NDEs in depth.

The Mystery of Prayer’s Effects on Healing

Lastly, Ross brings up one of the most debated topics: prayer.

According to some double-blind studies, people who are prayed for—especially by Christians—tend to recover more quickly and fully from illness and surgery than those who aren’t.

Ross sees this as possible evidence of a spiritual realm that listens and responds.

Still, even he admits this is a controversial area.

Other studies have found no measurable difference at all.

But for those who’ve experienced answered prayers, the effect can feel very real.

The Eternal Question: Is There a God?

Whether you’re religious, spiritual-but-not-religious, or firmly rooted in science, the question of whether God exists remains one of the biggest and most personal mysteries we face.

Wars, natural disasters, and personal pain often shake our faith—while beauty, birth, and wonder keep it alive.

Ross’s argument isn’t meant to be definitive proof, but rather an invitation to think bigger.

What if we’re not alone in the universe—not just in terms of aliens, but in the sense that there’s something, or someone, beyond all of this?

Maybe death isn’t the end.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s the beginning.
