FBI Director Christopher Wray expressed his appreciation to law enforcement personnel worldwide during Police Week and expressed his concern about the increasing risks that those who uphold public safety must contend with.

The FBI published its annual report on law enforcement fatalities in the line of duty on Monday.

According to such figures, 129 cops lost their lives in line of duty accidents in 2021. Of the fatalities, 73 were homicides.

Every single story is tragic, according to Wray in a video address.

“A 30-year-old Florida deputy committed murder one shift before retiring.

On his first day of work, an officer was ambushed; he left behind a wife and a young son.

A police dog and a combat veteran were both killed while on duty.

Every May, police officers can come together for social gatherings and to remember their fallen comrades during Police Week.

“We owe it to these heroes to redouble our efforts to take the most violent offenders off the streets and to make sure officers have the resources, equipment, and training they need to return home safely at the end of their shifts,” Director Wray said in reference to the losses commemorated during Police Week.

The speaker continued, “As we honor the courage of each man and woman who wears the badge during Police Week, we also remember our fallen colleagues.”
