APC youths demand inclusion in party activities

The Chairman of the progressive youth movement of the All Progressive Congress party, APC, Princess Zarah Audu has urged the leadership of the party to give the youths a chance to participate in the party activities.

She made this known in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna.

Princess Zarah said many of the youths did not join the APC because of any social contract with the President but because Nigeria needed change and they also believe in the vision of the President.

She explained that, as founding members of the APC, they are willing to take back the leadership of the party as youths.

“Out of the 40 million members, 35 million are under the age of 50 so we are the majority and that is not reflected in our party today.

We are tired and cannot sit back and watch the whole system built on so much illegalities, if we carry on like this, the APC will not make it through 2023.

As regards the interim caretaker committee led by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, she said the concept of a caretaker committee is foreign to the party, adding that, the leaders that were removed prior to the constitution of the committee were actually elected into office.

“If there was a tenure issue and the committee was set up and given a mandate of six months, why is the committee still there for almost two years even longer than the NWC that was elected,” she stressed.

On his part, the Convener of the progressive youth movement of the APC, Mustapha Audu disclosed that the youths have the capacity to take over the mantle of leadership of the party if given the opportunity.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the inability of the interim caretaker committee to conduct a national convention in almost two years.

“We have the capacity and competence to take over, as the care taker committee has failed to conduct elections in six months.

While the Co-convener of the movement, Mr Ayo Oyalowo called for the resignation of the chairman of the interim caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni.

According to him, the ruling party should not be experiencing the challenges it is going through at the moment, arguing that, since his assumption as the Chairman of the party, aside from Ondo State elections which the APC won, the party has lost in all other elections.

“Clearly, we need a leadership that is well put in place and not a caretaker leadership,” Ayo emphasized.
