Anyiego Foundation Takes Campaign Against Illicit Drugs To Ihiala Council Area

Anyiego foundation, a nonprofit making organization, has intensified the campaign against hard drugs, especially the ‘mkpurumilli’ among young people in the South East Region. .
The sensitization which took place at Ihiala local government area headquarters was sponsored by Dr. Ifeanyi Harry-Jeffery a native of Ihiala community.
Our correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the foundation has existed for over six years with the purposes of assisting the less-privileged and empowerment of the youths.
The abuse of hard drugs especially the methamphetamine otherwise known as ‘mkpurumilli’ in the local parlance has become a topical issue in the whole of South- Eastern region of Nigeria.
To this end, the campaign on the eradication of hard drugs by Anyiego Foundation is to enable the youths play a key role in fighting any kind of drug and substance abuse.
In his address during the occasion, the founder of the foundation, Dr. Jeffery represented by a member of the foundation, Mr. Benneth Nwawulu, said he decided to host the programme at his community to create awareness on the hazardous effect of hard drugs ravaging teeming talented youths with vision and aspirations.
Dr. Jeffery, urged youths to desist from drug abuse and learn a vocation and shun nefarious activities especially the get rich quick syndrome.
Speaking on the ‘facts about  methamphetamine”, the Anambra State Commandant of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mrs Florence Ezeonye represented by the Public Relations Officer of the Agency, Mr. Chris Adabor  stated that majority of the crimes committed in the society are as a result of drug and substance abuse, advising youths to flee from crystal Methamphetamine which he described as a powerful highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system.
In a presentation by the Anambra State Director,  National Orientation Agency, Barrister Charles Nworji, represented by the Assistant Director of the Agency, Comrade Ndubuisi Ilodigwe reminded the youths that drug abuse could result to serious  complications including  death, health challenges, and insanity, and cautioned them to desist from taking drugs without professional guidance.
Earlier in a welcome address, Ihiala Local Government Chairman, Honourable Jude Obi, described the event as apt, and noted that it will help to save the youths who are the future of society .
In their speeches, the Director of Programs, Advocate For Global Peace Forum International, Mrs. Ngozi Ani and a youth ambassador to the foundation Mr. Obinna Ani, maintained that the use of drugs does not only affect the lives of the citizens but also affects the economy of  the region.
The event featured lectures by various speakers, question and answer session .
