Buba Marwa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has advised lawmakers against sponsoring or encouraging drug use.

Marwa said the agency will go after any politician involved in the illicit drug trade anytime evidence is offered in his statement at the weekly ministerial briefing at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, October 21.

He stated that the NDLEA will never promote the commercial use of cannabis because there is no scientific proof that it heals, and that politicians should not only advocate against illicit drug use, but should also be tested before being entrusted with public office.

Marwa also  proposed 20 years or life sentence for drug traffickers to replace the option of a fine, as enshrined in the NDLEA Act currently under revision in the National Assembly.
