AnambraDecides: INEC suspends collation, holds election in Ihiala

Due to the inability of the INEC to conduct election in one of the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State and the inconclusive voting in some parts of Orumba, the electoral body has put on hold the announcement of the winner.

The state returning officer Prof.

Florence Obi said election would hold in Ihiala LGA on Tuesday, November 9.

Consequently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended further declaration of the results of the Anambra State gubernatorial election until it conducts supplementary election in Ihiala local government area of state on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 to determine the final result of the election which was conducted on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Meanwhile the results of the 20 out of the 21 local government areas of the state that have so far been announced by the electoral commission indicate that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) won 18 of the local governments areas, leaving one appease for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbaru LGA and Young People’s Party (YPP) in Nnewi North LGA.

APGA won the Orumba North LGA which the declaration of the result was initially suspended following a disagreement between both the collation officer and the returning officer for the local government area respectively.

APGA polled a total of 4, 787 votes to win the local government area, as against that of the closest opponents, the APC with 2,672 votes and the PDP with 1,847 votes.

Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Soludo, is the APGA candidate, while Mr.

Valentine Ozigbo and senator Ifeanyi Uba are the PDP and YPP candidates respectively.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, senator Andy Uba, has not won any local government area so far.

Both APC and PDP declined to sign the total results of the election declared by the Returning Officer for the gubernatorial election, Prof Florence Obi, vice chancellor of University of Calabar, protesting the result.

APGA leads with more than 103,000 of the total valid votes cast; with PDP trailing by over 51,000; APC, over 42,000 and YPP, over 20,000.

Ihiala LGA is said to have over 140,000 registered voters.
