Anambra State Govt Reassures Telecommunication Companies Of Conducive Business Environment

Anambra State Government has assured telecommunication companies lawfully operating and potential operators willing to invest in the state of its maximum support of creating an enabling environment for their operations.

The Executive Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe gave the assurance when he led officials of the board to monitor the reduction of a mast at Umueri.

Government House Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, had in a recent letter requested a reduction of a minimum of twenty-five meters in the height of the approach mast to the runway, and complete removal of another within the Obstacle Free Zone, for safe precision landing operations.

Consequently, Governor Willie Obiano directed the Managing Director, American Tower Company, Nigeria, owners of the masts, to reduce the height of the masts by twenty-five meters as recommended or relocate it to a new site on or before one week.

When the monitoring team visited the site, it was observed that dismantling of the tower was ongoing with an engineer working on the mast.

Commenting shortly after the exercise, Barrister Maduekwe expressed government’s satisfaction with the company’s immediate cooperation saying that such cooperation is what government demands from every telco operating in the state.

Barrister Maduekwe however frown that there are a few telcos, who do not want to get approval and are just digging the lands, warning that very soon, the state government will bring them to the full embrace of the law.

On his part, the engineer supervising the site, Mr. Andrew Ekemuje confirmed that they were actually contacted by government about the need to reduce the tower, saying that they had also seen the need, hence their decision to embark on the reduction.
