Anambra Local Govt  Service Commission Chairman Egenti Urges Information Officers To Promote Voter Education In Rural Areas

The Anambra State Local Government Information and Community Development Officers in the twenty-one Local Government Area of the State, have been urged to join other well-meaning Ndi Anambra in promoting voter education among the rural dwellers.

The chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission Awka, Dr. Peter Egenti gave the charge in Awka, while declaring open a-two-day training the trainers workshop, organized by the commission for the Unit Heads, Information and Community Development in the Unified Local Government System.

A release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Local Government Service Commission AWKA, Comrade Nnamdi Nweke   reports that the theme of the workshop was Local Government as Agent of Political Education and Mobilization of Electorates in the state for effective Voter Participation and Good Governance.

Dr. Egenti descried the information and community development officers as the purveyors of information at the grassroots and called on them to use the knowledge garnered to ensure adequate sensitization of the council workers and the rural dwellers for sustainable grassroots development and all-inclusive participatory democracy.

Delivering a paper titled, “Political education and mobilization of electorates in the State’ a resource Dr. Udochukwu Ogboji described voter mobilization as a vital tool for amelioration of voter apathy, which according to him, requires the stakeholders working together to ensure credible, transparent, free and fair elections in the state.

He noted that the training workshop was timely adding that adequate voter education exercise by the participants will enhance rural dwellers rights, active participation during elections, help to shun electoral violence and illegal electoral practices in the state.

In a communique, the participants promised that the rightful knowledge imparted on them, will help to achieve the set objectives towards ensuring effective voter education and awareness creation at the grassroots.
