AMAC Chairman advocates for special educational grants to indigent pupils

Authority of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA), has advocated for special educational grants to support indigent pupils.

The Council Chairman,  Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Candido made the request during budget retreat organised for its management staff in planning for the year 2022 financial appropriation in Keffi, Nassarawa state, North Central Nigeria.

The Council’s budget planning retreat has a projection of a total sum of 9.

The Chairman noted that degradation of educational standards in the country especially in the rural areas has attracted the attention of the authority hence the need to canvas for educational funds to support the indigent pupils in the Council.

Candido who lamented over the backwardness in the local education authority Schools called on the Council’s legislatures to make a law for an annual grant dedicated specially to education particularly in the area of research into the root causes of low educational enrolment of pupils and the poor educational background especially among the natives.

The Chairman had also in a related development charged the education department of the council in its submission of cultural evolution proposal for the year 2022 budget to harness the cultural heritage of the people of AMAC which he said is gradually going into extinction due to civilization.

He added that the rich cultural heritage of the people of the council who are made up of the Gbagys, Gwandaras, Koros, Bassas, Gades amongst others if captured together with their artifacts could create a museum for tourist attractions.

He then enjoined the department concerned to work towards actualisation of the proposal.

The Council’s budget planning retreat has in attendance key management staff, cabinet members and other relevant stakeholders.
