After years of navigating intense public scrutiny, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are stepping into a new phase—this time, with cameras capturing their everyday lives.
The couple recently sat down for an exclusive cover story with People magazine, where they opened up about why they decided to create their own reality show, The Baldwins.
Their new series comes more than three years after the tragic on-set shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins—a heartbreaking event that changed their lives forever.
The incident, which occurred in October 2021, resulted in Halyna’s death and injured director Joel Souza.
Filming was halted but eventually resumed, with the movie wrapping in May 2023. Alec’s trial for involuntary manslaughter was ultimately dismissed in August 2024.
Finding Healing in Front of the Cameras
For Hilaria, 41, the reality show felt like a necessary step—a way to tell their own story in a space where they felt safe and heard.
“It was an opportunity for us to actually speak,” she shared, explaining why they took the leap into reality TV.
“It felt almost like a diary—something we could lean on during a really uncertain time in our lives.
It was both terrifying and, at the same time, something that helped us get through each day.”
Alec, 66, echoed her sentiments, crediting Hilaria for being his rock.
“I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have her,” he admitted. “I don’t know what would’ve happened to me.”
Honoring a Heartbreaking Loss
Despite focusing on their own journey, the Baldwins also acknowledged the pain felt by Halyna Hutchins’ family, particularly her young son.
“A son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry that pain forever,” Hilaria said.
“There’s no perfect way to handle something like this. There’s no recipe for moving forward.”
Leaning on Family and Gratitude
The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, have built a bustling household with their seven children, ranging in age from 11 to two.
Alec is also a father to his eldest daughter, Ireland, 28, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
Despite the challenges they’ve faced, the Baldwins remain committed to finding joy in the small moments. “We lean into gratitude every single day,” Hilaria shared.
“The simple beauties of life can get you through the hardest moments.”
The Baldwins Step into Reality TV
Now, the family is ready to invite the world into their home.
Their reality series The Baldwins is set to premiere on TLC on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 10 p.m. EST.
Meanwhile, Rust had its official premiere at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival in Toruń, Poland, on November 20.
While the film’s release marks the end of a painful chapter, the Baldwins are focused on embracing their future—one that they hope will be filled with honesty, healing, and love.
