Emotional Outburst Over Tragic Killings
The Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, found himself overwhelmed with emotion as he presented a motion addressing the recent killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.
The motion, categorized as an urgent public importance, shed light on the grim circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
Details of the Tragedy Unveiled
While passionately delivering the motion, Rotimi revealed the distressing news that the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola, had fallen victim to unknown gunmen.
The incident occurred on a fateful Monday, leaving the community mourning the loss of their esteemed leaders.
Rotimi went on to share additional distressing incidents, stating, “a commercial driver was killed between Ayedun and Ayebode by armed bandits, and just yesterday (Monday), a school bus loaded with students was hijacked in Emure Ekiti, and their whereabouts still remain unknown.”
House Takes Swift Action
In response to the escalating security concerns, the House of Representatives swiftly passed resolutions to address the situation.
One resolution urged the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy military personnel to the Oke-Ako area outpost, aiming to fortify security and prevent a recurrence of such heinous acts.
Additionally, the House called upon key figures such as the Inspector General of Police, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies to deploy extra personnel to Ekiti North 1.
Seeking Justice for the Victims
The primary objective behind these resolutions is to ensure the apprehension and just punishment of the perpetrators responsible for these despicable acts.
The House emphasized the importance of a collaborative effort among various security agencies to bring a swift resolution to the unfolding crisis.
Honoring the Departed
As a solemn mark of respect, the House collectively observed a minute of silence to honor the memories of the deceased traditional rulers and other victims who have tragically lost their lives.
This poignant gesture served as a poignant reminder of the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for effective security measures in the affected region.
