The Indian Premier League (IPL) giants announced on Saturday that they had reinstated Mahendra Singh Dhoni as their captain after Ravindra Jadeja stood down to focus on his career.
Last year, Dhoni led Chennai to their fourth IPL triumph, but he stepped aside before the start of the current season.
Despite Jadeja’s lack of senior-level captaincy experience, Chennai’s title defence appears to be in shambles following two wins in eight matches under his leadership.
“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to renounce captaincy in order to focus and concentrate more on his game,” the franchise stated in a statement. “He has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK.”
“MS Dhoni has agreed to lead CSK in the bigger picture, allowing Jadeja to concentrate on his game.”
Chennai is now ranked ninth in the 10-team championship and will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.
