AfDB To Commit $110m in Kano Special AgriculturThe African Development Bank (AfDB) has disclosed plans to invest the sum of $110 million to boost infrastructure and agricultural productivity in Kano State.

The initiative, which is under the Special Agricultural Processing Zone (SAPZ) would involve the development of rural roads, transport infrastructure, water supply and sanitation projects.

The President of the Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, disclosed this at the weekend during his condolence visit to the Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over the death of Sani Dangote, at Africa House, Government House in Kano.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Kano State Governor, Mr Abba Anwar, Adesina said, “In all, we are having about $563 million dedicated for our projects in various states in Nigeria.

“We are using $110 million for our programme on Special Agricultural Industrial Processing Zone in Kano.

The funds will be invested on rural roads, transport infrastructure, water and sanitation, and in agriculture to increase productivity.

The AfDB President noted that the funds would enable the creation of job opportunities and boost rural infrastructure development.

“With this programme, hundreds of US Dollars will help develop consolidated infrastructure in rural areas.

“This will allow private sector food and agribusiness companies to reduce the number of losses they have, create a more competitive value chain, transform the rural areas from the zones of misery to the zones of economic prosperity and increase the number of resources the state has,” Adesina added.

On his part, Governor Ganduje commended the AfDB’s decision, saying, “When institutions are strengthened and individuals or groups of individuals are directly impacted, this is what we mean by genuine development.

“My dream is to promote Kano into a Mega City, which is not only a collection of the population but also, a collection of an environment where things are working, where traffic flows, where health services are excellent.
