Adolescent and Youths Sexual Reproductive Health Right Strategy Drafting Meeting Holds In Awka

The Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Linus Nwankwo says the State is committed to providing affordable and accessible healthcare services to all residents of the State.

 

Dr. Nwankwo stated this during a stakeholder’s programme for Adolescent and Youths Sexual Reproductive Health Right Strategy Drafting Meeting held in Awka.

 

Represented by Dr. Uju Okoye, the Permanent Secretary said the youths have been long overlooked in the health sector, despite their high risks in contracting HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, involvement in unsafe abortions, early marriage, among others, citing social, religious and political factors as part of issues affecting youth’s inclusiveness in family planning.

Dr. Nwankwo maintained that Anambra is trying to put up a draft that will tackle the loopholes and create effective intervention in the State.

 

In a remark, the Country Director, International Youth Alliance for Family Planning, Ms Hawa Obaje, represented by Miss Queen Chikwendu said the mission in the State is to assess implications of existing policies that support youth friendly access to and use of family planning services, and identified opportunities to strengthen the policies based on evidence best practices.

 

The Anambra State Family Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Onyinyechukwu-Ndife said the State Ministry of Health is carrying out series of sensitization and advocacy programs to sensitize the youths on family planning.

 

Correspondent, Chibuzor Okoye reports that representatives of the National Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Anambra State chapter also attended the programme.
