Actress Anne Hathaway Debunks Speculation of Harry Styles Influence on “The Idea of You” at Film Premiere

Anne Hathaway, star of the upcoming romantic comedy “The Idea of You,” is setting the record straight amidst rumors linking the film to Harry Styles’ past romantic relationships. Despite the speculation, the 41-year-old actress has firmly denied any connection between the movie and the former One Direction star’s love life.

At the premiere of the film at SXSW, Hathaway expressed her exasperation at the rumors, urging everyone to remain calm. She emphasized that the movie is not inspired by Styles’ highly publicized romance with Olivia Wilde, dismissing the notion with a resounding “no.”

Based on Robinne Lee’s novel, the film follows Hathaway’s character, Solène, a 40-year-old divorced mother, who finds herself drawn into a romance with a younger man during a trip to Coachella with her teenage daughter. Nicholas Galitzine portrays Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old lead singer of a popular boy band, with whom Solène’s character develops a connection.

Speculation linking the movie to Harry Styles likely arose due to his previous relationships, particularly with older women such as Olivia Wilde, his co-star and director in the film “Don’t Worry Darling.” However, both Hathaway and Galitzine have been keen to distance the movie from such associations.

Galitzine acknowledged the attention the rumors have garnered but emphasized the film’s unique narrative and characters. He highlighted the diverse inspirations behind the movie’s elements, including references to BTS for choreography, indicating a broader scope beyond any individual’s personal life.

In interviews, Hathaway reiterated that “The Idea of You” is primarily a story about healing from heartbreak. She emphasized the journey of her character, Solène, who initially sees her relationship with Hayes as a casual fling but eventually realizes its deeper significance, requiring her to confront her past.

In real life, Hathaway is happily married to actor and producer Adam Shulman, with whom she shares two children. Despite the tabloid speculation, she remains focused on her professional endeavors, including the upcoming premiere of “The Idea of You” on May 2nd, exclusively on Prime Video.
