Nick Moran, best known for his roles in Harry Potter and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, has been recovering at home following an unexpected and life-threatening health issue.
At 55 years old, the actor underwent emergency spinal surgery after discovering that the pain he’d been feeling in his neck was more severe than originally thought.
Sudden Health Crisis
The actor, who portrayed Scabior in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2, initially dismissed his neck pain as something minor.
As his close friend and podcast host Terry Stone shared, Nick’s girlfriend urged him to see a doctor, but Nick tried to brush it off with a simple remedy.
Eventually, he visited a doctor, who quickly sent him to the emergency room, where he was informed that immediate surgery was necessary.
Terry explained, “Nick’s girlfriend said, ‘You’ve got to get it checked out,’ but as a man, Nick tried to just put some deep heat on it.
It wasn’t until he went to the doctors and got sent straight to A&E that they told him the situation was life-threatening.”
The Serious Diagnosis
It turned out that Nick had suffered an injury to his neck that was impacting his spinal cord, affecting both his speech and ability to walk.
Doctors warned him that without surgery, he could be left unable to move or speak at all. The situation was critical.
Terry revealed that Nick’s condition was so severe that the surgery involved removing four bones from his neck and replacing them with artificial bone.
The operation was complex due to the delicate nerves in the area, making the risks of the procedure even higher.
Surgery and Recovery
The surgery was a success, but doctors initially gave a grim prognosis, telling Nick that he might never speak or walk again.
Thankfully, he came through the operation, but the recovery process is expected to take time.
While Nick is now able to speak, he still requires a neck brace and is moving slowly, like someone much older than his 55 years.
Terry noted, “When Nick came out of surgery, I was so relieved. It was a tough decision for him, but I think he’d rather take the risk and have the surgery than face the possibility of dying.”
Support and Well Wishes
Nick’s representative confirmed that the surgery went well and that he is now recovering at home.
They added that he had a short stay in the hospital and is on the path to a full recovery.
Nick has expressed gratitude for the well-wishes and support from fans.
Terry shared an update on Instagram, posting a picture of Nick in a neck brace, recovering in intensive care.
Despite the difficult situation, Nick managed a thumbs up for the camera.
Terry captioned the photo with a call for prayers and support, hoping for Nick’s full recovery.
