Mikel Obi Blames Sunday Oliseh for Vincent Enyeama’s Early Retirement
Former Nigerian football team captain, Mikel Obi, has launched a scathing attack on former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, attributing the premature retirement of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to Oliseh’s mismanagement.
Mikel went on record to brand Oliseh as “absolutely clueless” and the “worst manager” he ever played under, shedding light on the divisive tactics employed by the coach during his tenure.
Oliseh’s Disastrous Impact on Team Unity
According to Mikel, Oliseh was responsible for creating division within the national team from the moment he joined the camp.
Mikel recounted the coach’s confrontational approach towards key players, including himself and Enyeama, which sparked tension and led to a series of clashes.
Confrontation in the Camp: A Tense Encounter
Mikel shared a vivid account of Oliseh’s initial confrontation with him, Enyeama, and Elderson Echiejile, where the coach alleged the existence of “player power” within the team.

Enyeama’s Forced Exit: Oliseh’s Authoritarian Approach
The conflict with Oliseh ultimately led to the coach sidelining Enyeama from the team, a decision that Mikel claims was rooted in Oliseh’s desire to exert control.
Despite Mikel’s pleas for Enyeama to stay, the goalkeeper left the camp in frustration and never returned, marking a premature end to his international career.
Oliseh’s Coaching Incompetence: Mikel’s Scathing Critique
Mikel did not hold back in his assessment of Oliseh’s coaching abilities, describing him as having “absolutely no clue of how a manager is.”
He criticized Oliseh for destroying team togetherness, causing confusion among players, and lacking a coherent coaching strategy.
Mikel emphasized that Oliseh’s bitterness, jealousy, and disrespect further contributed to the coach’s poor reputation.
Unveiling Oliseh’s Excuse: Voodoo Allegations and Bitterness
Mikel disclosed that Oliseh’s excuse upon being fired was blaming mystical forces for his lack of success. The former coach alleged that the people and football association had used voodoo against him.
Mikel concluded his critique by stating that Oliseh was “easily the worst manager” he had ever played under, leaving a lasting mark on the team’s dynamics and the careers of players like Vincent Enyeama.
