ABC Learning Center Faces Public Scrutiny After Unusual Images Raise Questions About Operations in Minneapolis Minnesota

The ABC Learning Center in Minneapolis has come under intense public scrutiny after unusual images were spotted inside the daycare, raising questions about its operations.

Independent journalist Nick Shirley highlighted the facility in a report, noting that the center appeared empty despite receiving over $1 million in funding from Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program.

The post went viral, prompting discussions online about potential fraud, though the center’s leadership insists no wrongdoing occurred.

Director Denies Fraud Allegations and Invites Reporters In

In response to growing skepticism, director Ahmed Hasan welcomed Associated Press reporters into the facility to show its day-to-day operations.

Hasan, who is Somali, emphasized that the center remains fully operational.

“There’s no fraud happening here. We are open every day, and we have our records to show that this place is open,” Hasan told AP.

He confirmed that the center currently has 56 enrolled children and said the recent video coverage had sparked a wave of harassing phone calls.

Hasan also pointed out that the center undergoes regular inspections from state regulators to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.

Stock and AI-Generated Images Raise Eyebrows

Despite Hasan’s reassurances, viewers noticed oddly placed stock or AI-generated images throughout the center, particularly a wall displaying family photos under the word “science.”

Social media users quickly speculated about the origin and purpose of the images.

“Looks like they went out and bought a bunch of picture frames so they could use the stock photos inside,” one user wrote.

Another asked for reverse image or AI detection, questioning whether the photos were concealing something on the wall.

The placement of the images prompted speculation about whether they were covering important information, though no concrete evidence has emerged.

Minnesota Becomes Focal Point in Immigration and Fraud Debate

The controversy over the daycare comes amid broader scrutiny of Somali communities in Minnesota as part of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to crack down on alleged fraud involving federal child care funds.

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) demanded information from providers and parents by January 9 or risk losing federal funding.

Federal officials have frozen funding and asked Governor Tim Walz to audit centers reportedly involved in fraudulent claims.

The scandal has drawn national attention, with Walz announcing he will not seek re-election, and taxpayers reportedly facing losses amounting to billions of dollars.

Inspections Find Centers Operating Normally

After Shirley’s reporting, DCYF conducted on-site inspections at nine centers, including ABC Learning Center.

Investigators found that eight of the nine centers had children present and were operating as expected, though one facility was closed at the time.

The department confirmed that it gathered evidence and began further reviews, but initial findings suggest that the centers were functional and compliant with regulations.

Funding Levels for Minnesota Daycares Revealed

DCYF also disclosed how much state funding the inspected centers received during the 2025 fiscal year, which ended in September.

ABC Learning Center received $1.04 million, highlighting the scale of taxpayer investment in child care services.

While questions about unusual images remain, authorities continue to monitor operations and investigate claims to ensure federal and state funds are being used appropriately.

The Road Ahead for ABC Learning Center

As the investigation continues, ABC Learning Center and other facilities in Minnesota face intense scrutiny from regulators, the public, and national media.

For now, Hasan insists the daycare is legitimate and compliant, but social media speculation shows no signs of slowing
