Rescuers stated today that a lady climber died following a fall on a 3,261ft Snowdonia peak.

Glyder Fach was the scene of the tragedy. A lead climber was reported unconscious after falling on the rough Chasm Route, according to the Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team.

She was winched aboard a coastguard rescue helicopter and brought to the mountain rescue team’s base after nearby climbers attempted to assist her. Medics on an air ambulance, however, were unable to save her.

The woman from Cheshire was in her fifties and a member of a climbing club. When she fell, she had already ascended more than 50 feet and was about to ascend another 30 feet on the trail. Mountaineers helped her female climbing buddy descend the top.

‘It’s quite upsetting,’ said an Ogwen team spokesman. The team is thinking of the victim’s family, friends, and climbing companion. The crew would also like to express gratitude to the aiding climbers for their assistance.’

Around the same time, the Ogwen team volunteers were dispatched to a woman in her 30s from the East Midlands who had become stranded after descending from the summit of 3,000ft Tryfan down the treacherous West Face, a notorious accident blackspot.

She was noticed by a coastguard helicopter crew, and the rescue squad deployed ropes to save her.
