In Melbourne, a 55-year-old man was fatally shot after getting out of a parked car after a dispute.

Around 4.15 pm on Tuesday in Fitzroy, the bloody scene at the intersection of Napier Street and Gertrude Street was the scene of a rush by emergency personnel in response to calls from terrified witnesses.

The man is thought to have gotten into a fight with a few persons before being shot dead.

The individual was attended to by an ambulance personnel at the spot, but was later declared dead.

Detectives are still trying to determine how he died, and police have established a crime scene.

Early inquiries lead to the conclusion that the parties involved knew one another.

The shooting is not thought to be connected to any other recent gangland murders, according to police, who have not yet made any arrests.

Police have asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.
