Buriram – Organizers announced on Friday that India will hold its inaugural MotoGP race in 2023 on the same track that previously held Formula One.

The event will take place at the Buddh International Circuit in Uttar Pradesh, south of New Delhi.

Between 2011 and 2013, the track has previously hosted three Formula One grand prix.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive officer of MotoGP organizers Dorna, said in a statement, “We have many fans in India, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring the sport to them.”

India is a significant market for expanding the sport, according to event organizers, who cite the country’s population of 1.4 billion people and more than 200 million motorcycles.

“It is a source of tremendous pleasure for Uttar Pradesh to host such a global event,” said Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian government hopes that the event will increase foreign investment.
