Chris Rock was too humorous for Christian Bale on the set of ‘Amsterdam’

On the set of “Amsterdam,” Christian Bale avoided Chris Rock because he was too “bloody funny.”

The 48-year-old actor is renowned for his method acting on set, but he struggled to get into character when filming the new film by David O. Russell because his co-star kept making him giggle.

He said to IndieWire: “I recall his first day and how pleased I was to meet him because I am a huge admirer of his comedy. Then he arrives and begins performing various tasks…

“David [O. Russell] instructed him to give me certain anecdotes that I was unaware he was going to tell me, as is typical with David. And I was enthralled.

“But Chris is so hilarious that I discovered I was unable to perform because I was becoming a Christian from laughing at Chris Rock.

“So I had to approach him and tell him, ‘Mate, I enjoy conversing with you, and we have mutual friends, but I can’t do it anymore. Because David did not ask me to produce this film so he could see me laugh as I did it.

“He wants me to portray Burt, but I’ve forgotten how,”

Bale acknowledged that separating himself from co-stars is a part of his process when working on a film, as it helps him remain in character.

He elaborated: “I frequently encounter extraordinary people, yet I maintain my solitude. Because if I know them too well, I can’t believe what I’m doing onstage.”

It’s a stark contrast to how Margot Robbie and John David Washington collaborated on the picture, as it was their first time working with “American Hustle” director David O. Russell.

Robbie stated recently: “We gripped to each other immediately, asking, “OK, are you scared?” Because I am afraid. Ah! What do we do?

“Then, you leap in headfirst and have the time of your life, while Christian Bale says, “Don’t worry. This is always the case. It is thrilling that you never know what will happen when you go to work each day.”
