At least six patients are being treated for exposure to an unknown chemical inside a Gold Coast structure.

At 2.30 pm on Friday, emergency personnel were summoned to a job centre on Ninth Street in Southport.

Four further persons received on-site respiratory care from paramedics while another two were taken by ambulance to Gold Coast University Hospital.

According to reports, an air conditioning system gases leak was what started the tragedy.

Since then, the building has been evacuated, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service is looking into what caused the leak.
