Dick’s Diggers sign angers Mosman

One of Australia’s richest neighbourhoods is split over a tacky advertising sign at a building site that reads, “Our aim is your hole,” with some homeowners offended because the slogan is visible to youngsters.

By posting the sign on the site of a new Woolworths store being constructed in Mosman, on the city’s north shore, and just 200 metres from a neighbouring school, Sydney excavation business Dick’s Diggers has drawn attention.

Less than a year after the disputed $5.3 million project, which had prompted vehement opposition from some communities, was approved by the NSW Land and Environment Court and given the go-ahead, the sign has been dubbed “filth and smut” by aggrieved residents.

A “gobsmacked” guy said on a neighbourhood Facebook group, “My wife and I passed through the Woolworths building site today and we were appalled by the language so blatantly exhibited.”

“A school is not even a mile distant.” I’m in disbelief.

How many children in the thousands are exposed to such squalor? Our community must be above this smut.

A another resident said, “Almost every youngster that passes by that placard will be giggling out.”

Another said, “Trust me, kids have seen much worse before lunchtime.”

Nearly a week later, the since-deleted post is still generating discussion.

We now know who the actual d*** is, I suppose. Even Australian humour is now being attacked by PC w******. One guy said, “I daren’t even remark on the complainant’s usage of fur long.”

Geez, there are some genuine “Karens” out there, a lady said.

This week, the Triple M morning crew in Sydney made light of the incident.

The broadcaster, Chris Page, made fun of the well-to-do inhabitants of the affluent suburbs by reading aloud the aggrieved man’s remarks in a fancy accent and joking, “It’s the nasty streets of Mosman.”

I don’t know about your kids, but mine are exposed to a lot more than that, co-host Jess Eva said.

Given that the opening of the new Woolworths shop isn’t expected until mid-2023, the sign could still be there for some time.
