SAPS plane crashes near Rand Airport, killing five

Tuesday afternoon, a SAPS aircraft crashed near Rand Airport, killing five individuals aboard.

Shawn Herbst, a representative for Netcare911, stated that a second seriously injured individual was evacuated to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Tuesday afternoon, a SAPS Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4 Turbo Porter is thought to have crashed shortly after taking off from Rand Airport.

Tuesday about 14:00 a.m. was when the accident occurred. Emergency personnel are still en route to the scene.

The two young pilots were murdered earlier this year when their plane crashed on a farm in Kinkelbos. In June, Sudanese national Oyit Ajack, 33, and Malawian national Bhadresh Kadiwar, 25, were killed instantly when their light aircraft crashed on a property in Kinklebos.

On Wednesday, family and friends will gather to honor the lives of Oyit and Bhadresh.

Friday at 15:00, the memorial service will be held at the Algeo Flying Club in Port Elizabeth.

According to police spokesman Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the pilots departed Dawid Stuurman Airport for East London at approximately 18:15 on Saturday evening.

“The pilots departed Dawid Stuurman Airport at approximately 18:15 on Saturday evening en route to East London; however, they made a U-turn at Kenton-On-Sea and returned to Gqeberha.

“Communication with the aircraft was lost at approximately 20:07, and at approximately 22:00, the SAPS Search and Rescue team, including the Diving Unit and Gqeberha K9 unit, was mobilized to search for the missing aircraft.”
