Louisiana woman sentenced to 40 months in prison for conspiring to defraud the United States

A Louisiana woman who had planned to defraud the US was given a 40-month prison term yesterday.

Carlanda Isaac, a New Orleans resident, worked for Taxes by J.A.D.A. before joining Pelican Income Tax and Bookkeeping Services LLC, according to court records.

Together with others, Isaac aimed to have clients receive inflated tax refunds by having them file bogus claims for education, withholding, and income credits. Isaac billed her customers for creating fraudulent tax returns.

Isaac was sentenced to a term of imprisonment as well as three years of supervised release and a payment of $283,378 in restitution to the government, according to U.S. District Judge Greg G. Guidry.

The statement was made by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans for the Eastern District of Louisiana and Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division.

Criminal Investigation at IRS investigated into the case.

The case was prosecuted by Trial Attorney Jessica Kraft of the Tax Division of the Justice Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter Guice of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
