What to do if you are captured by Russians

This was reported by the information agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, “Army Inform”.

According to the message, if a person is captured, two steps must be taken. Close relatives and family members of the detainee can notify the relevant authorities about the event, and then contact international organizations.

Step 1. To receive or provide information, citizens can contact the Joint Center for the Search and Release of Prisoners under the Security Service of Ukraine. This can be done by phone: +38 067 650 83 32, , +38 098 087 36 01 , or send a request to united.centre.ssu@gmail.com .

You can contact the National Information Bureau with relevant inquiries by calling the hotline 1648 or the city number (044) 287-81-65 (for calls from abroad). There is also an option to apply to the e-mail posted on the website of the Bureau nib.gov.ua.

In addition, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War deals with the search for prisoners, where you can get the necessary information by calling (044) 428-62-74 , or send an email request to the address contact@gur.gov.ua .

You can find out that a person has been captured by calling the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: +38 089-420-18-66 .

You can also apply to the nearest territorial body of the National Police of Ukraine, send a request by mail, call 102 (24/7) or hotline (0894) 200-18-67 .

The received application is registered in the journal of the Unified Accounting and the information is entered into the EDPR for the National Police to carry out a pre-trial investigation under Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with the note “is in captivity, 437 or 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.”

Step 2. After completing the first step, namely: receiving an official response, citizens are recommended to contact the hotline of the International Committee of the Red Cross at 0-800-300-155. You can also prepare an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Committee.
