The Edo State Government has warned citizens against carelessly disposing of trash in unapproved locations, especially at night, and warned that violators will be detained and prosecuted.

According to a statement from the Edo State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, locals are asked to contact the police if they witness anyone disposing of trash carelessly.

The State Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, the Edo State Waste Management Board, and local government councils are hereby appealing to residents in the State to stop dumping refuse in unauthorized places, particularly at night, as security agencies have been empowered to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in this act, he said.

“By this notification, residents are encouraged to report anyone dumping garbage in an unapproved location, particularly at night, to security agencies for appropriate sanctions in accordance with the State’s Environmental Sanitation Laws,” he continued.
