Hundreds of passengers’ travel plans for the Jubilee festivities have been thrown into chaos for the sixth day in a row, following a ‘terrible’ week of flight cancellations and excruciatingly long lines as the staffing crisis at Britain’s transport hubs continues to cause havoc.

After experiencing’serious delays,’ a group of returning travellers at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3 took matters into their own hands and climbed behind the plastic barrier to get their luggage.

The tumultuous scenes were seen after passengers on a Ryanair flight from Porto, Portugal, arrived on Monday. During the long delays, armed cops are seen being called to the carousel.

The woman, who requested anonymity because she filmed the footage, stated that when she arrived at the baggage hall, “hundreds of people were waiting” and that “luggage had been strewn everywhere over the floor,” with some bags dated “May 27,” implying that they had been there for three days.

She told Manchester Evening News: ‘Border Control came to calm some passengers. They were saying that there was no one to get the bags. A lot of people were angry. People were offering to go and help put the bags on the carousel from behind to speed up the process.

“It was worse for people with kids. There was nowhere to sit or get a drink or something to eat. A lot of people were just leaving their bags and coming back to get them on another day.’

Meanwhile, Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, 61, has suggested that ‘defense troops with experience providing security’ be recruited in for the next ‘three to four months’ to assist alleviate the continued travel inconvenience at airports around the country.
