Limpopo DStv Premiership Clubs Pledge Substantial Funds to Support Wimbledon Champion Kgothatso Montjane’s Vision for New Tennis Court in the Province

In an inspiring display of support, three Limpopo-based DStv Premiership clubs—Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City FC, and Magesi FC—have come together to back Wimbledon champion Kgothatso Montjane.

Their generous pledges aim to help her realize a dream: the creation of a new tennis court in Limpopo.

Montjane recently made history as the first black South African woman to win at Wimbledon, triumphing in the wheelchair women’s doubles.

Her remarkable achievement was celebrated on Tuesday at a special event in her honor, attended by local dignitaries including Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Funani Maseko, Capricorn District Municipality Mayor Mamedupi, and Polokwane Municipality Mayor John Mpe.

How Much Support Did the Limpopo DStv Premiership Clubs Offer?

Polokwane City’s Johnny Mogaladi led the way with a pledge of R1,000,000.

Sekhukhune United’s representatives followed with a commitment of R60,000.

Magesi FC’s General LLP Manager Peter Makgamatha also contributed R100,000. Altogether, these pledges have raised R330,000 so far to support Montjane’s vision for a new tennis facility.

Why Sekhukhune United and Magesi FC Stepped Up

Magesi FC’s Peter Makgamatha explained their motivation: “In the world of sports, we understand the challenges players face.

Kgothatso Montjane had to overcome significant obstacles without proper infrastructure.

So, it’s crucial to build these facilities to nurture young talent.

We’re thrilled to contribute.”

Sekhukhune United’s Marketing Manager, Tebogo Mapinga, shared similar sentiments.

“Supporting this cause is a no-brainer. We know the importance of quality facilities, especially coming from this region.

Our executive chairman, Mr. Simon Malatji, and the Montjane Foundation’s call to support future stars prompted us to give back.

That’s what we’re here to do.”
