Roman Abramovich sells Chelsea

According to RIA Novosti, which cites the British authorities, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has completed the sale of Chelsea Football Club in London.

Chelsea, a Premier League (EPL) team owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, has been sold to a group led by American businessman Todd Boeli.

The purchase was previously estimated to be worth $5.33 billion dollars.

Following his inclusion on the British government’s list of sanctions against Russia, Roman Abramovich turned over control of Chelsea to trustees of the same-named nonprofit organization on February 26. His assets were taken, including the football team. Abramovich was forbidden from benefitting from the sale of the club by the British government, putting the agreement in risk.

Roman Abramovich acquired Chelsea in 2003. During this time, the club has won the title of the champion of England five times and became the winner of the Champions League and the Europa League twice.
