According to Olena Zerkal, assistant to the Ukrainian Energy Minister, Ukraine may try to affect the functioning of the Druzhba oil pipeline in order to exert pressure on nations who aren’t willing to renounce Russian energy.
Hungary took advantage of the situation in Ukraine and began blackmailing the European Union, according to the source, but Kyiv “has a wonderful lever in its hands – the Druzhba oil pipeline.”
She noted that Hungary is served by a different pipeline.
“It would be quite fitting, in my opinion, if anything occurred to the oil pipeline. But, once again, political decisions are in the hands of the cabinet and the president: do we really want to talk to Orban in the language he knows and imposes on the European Union, or are we not ready yet? “Zerkal came to a conclusion.
Some EU countries, including Hungary, are blocking the adoption of the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes the possibility of abandoning Russian oil.
