Detectives Investigating Friday Night Fatal Collision in West Seattle

Detectives with SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating after a driver struck and killed a pedestrian in West Seattle on Friday night.

At 10:01 p.m., multiple callers reported a collision in the 5400 block of California Avenue Southwest. Police responded and found an adult male pedestrian who had been struck by a motorist. Seattle Fire Department medics arrived at the scene and declared the man deceased.

According to witnesses, three subjects were dropped off from a car on the west side of California Avenue Southwest. As the pedestrians crossed to the east side of the street mid-block, a driver traveling northbound struck one of the pedestrians.

The motorist originally drove away, but later returned and cooperated with police. TCIS Detectives identified and interviewed the driver at the scene, and officers detected no signs of impairment after evaluating him.

TCIS Detectives also interviewed witnesses and collected evidence at the scene, and will continue to investigate this incident.
