Adamawa State Takes Drastic Action: 24-Hour Curfew Imposed to Stop Food Warehouse Looting

Authorities in Nigeria’s Northeastern State of Adamawa took a significant step on Sunday to tackle the widespread looting of food stores in the state capital, Yola.

The situation had escalated to hundreds of residents breaking into both public and private warehouses, plundering grains and other essential commodities.

In response to the escalating crisis, the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, declared a 24-hour curfew throughout the state, effective immediately from July 30, 2023.

This unrest coincides with the United Nations’ earlier prediction that more than 25 million Nigerians would be at a “high risk” of food insecurity in 2023.
