SRD Grant Beneficiaries Urged To Report To Post Office

A total of 328 477 SASSA SRD grant beneficiaries who applied during the first cycle (early lockdown) which ends on 30 April 2021 are yet to collect their R350 grants.

A total of 442 602 are also yet to collect theirs from the second cycle which covers the period from August 2021 to March 2022.

According to the Department of Social Development approval has recently been provided to the South African Post Office (SAPO) for beneficiaries from the first cycle to be paid their funds, should they report to the post office.

SRD grant beneficiaries can collect their grants at Pick & Pay, Boxer, Checker, Shoprite and Usave. They can also request payment directly into their personal bank accounts, as well as through the post office.

Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu said negotiations with the Spar group to also allow access to the relief grant are at an advanced stage and further announcements will be made shortly.

“Currently, of the 10 563 123 approved beneficiaries, 42% collect their grants through the post office while 58% receive the grant in their own personal bank accounts.”

UPDATED PAYMENT SCHEDULE

In the past, the first week of the month was reserved for elderly, child and disability grant payments.

SASSA announced that those grants would be paid from the 2^nd of the month, if possible, from April 2022 onwards.

Social grant payments will be made earlier but will continue in the same order.

In April, the R350 SRD grant could be collected from the first of day of the month. However, no payments were made during the days when other social grants are paid out (4-7 April).

As per usual, the last three digits of an SRD grant recipient’s ID number determines the date on which they can collect the money from a South African Post Office branch. However, beneficiaries should only do so if they have received an SMS informing them that the SASSA R350 grant has been paid.
