The Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Thursday unveiled the state Mass Transit WiFi enabled bus scheme aimed at enhancing people’s movement across the state
Inaugurating the mass transit project at arcade ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun said the project was deliberately conceptualized to improve quality of life by reducing travel time, curbing greenhouse gas emissions and to prevent road fatalities and crashes
The governor who described multi-modal transportation system as a catalyst to any nation’s economic development informed that the government has also concluded plans to sign a memorandum of understanding, MOU, with a private company to revitalize the Olokola seaport in order to ease movement of goods from and to the state, adding that government is planning to extend the red line rail services of Lagos state to some parts of the state by using the new Nigeria railway corporation,NRC standard gauge rail line for commuter service
Mr governor posited that the event was another testimonial that the current administration has continued to demonstrate visible sincerity and commitment in providing good governance by rekindling the hope and trust of the people in government
The Governor who emphasized that the Bus Pilot Scheme which would commence in Abeokuta metropolis to Marina in Lagos and later extend to other parts of the state said it is important to put in place logistics efficient and effective transportation system as a key component of economic development of the state to improve on ease of doing business, attract more investors ‘create more employment opportunities by further strengthening efforts at alleviating poverty
The Governor while commending the Federal Government for the completion of the rail line said the rail line has helped in the movement of people and goods in the state being the hub of investment in the country
In a remark, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for operating a purposeful government saying all the legacy projects carried out by the governor would continue to speak for him after leaving office
The Minister who reiterated the commitment of the government at the center on improving transportation system across the country informed that the construction of Lagos -Calabar rail line that would pass through lekki deep seaport down to Epe township will soon commence, stressing that government has continued to implement the rail line master plan project initiated by president olusegun Obasanjo regime
Meanwhile, the Ogun State government has been lauded for paying adequate attention to the development of the transportation sector for the socio -economic advancement of the state.
Former Governor Olusegun Osoba gave the commendation at the launch of the State strategic transport master plan and flag off of the gateway bus pilot scheme held on Thursday at the Arcade Ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Chief Osoba noted that the state under the current administration has witnessed improved road network system.
In a goodwill message, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo urged the people of the state to key into the transportaion initiatives of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government for the progress of the state.
Also speaking, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Fredrick Oladeinde described transportation as the engine room of any economy, saying the current administration in the gateway state is doing the state a world of good for effectively planning the sector.
In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Transportation, Engineer Gbenga Dairo said the strategic transport master plan and the gateway bus pilot scheme are unique initiatives which will enhance the industrialisation of the state.
Engineer Dairo who noted that the Prince Dapo Abiodun- led administration has been performing excellently in repositioning the transportation sector, especially with the creation of a ministry to oversee the sector.
