It was Saint Valentine’s Day to remember in Anambra, as some Rotary clubs in collaboration with Rotaract Club and students’ union Government engaged Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka themselves in feeding the vulnerable people on the street.
The celebration which was the brainchild of Rotary Club of Awka and that of Rotary club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University was kicked off at the Garuba square UNIZIK before the group moved to feed the destitute on the streets.
Speaking during the ceremony, the President of Rotary club of Awka Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Rotarian Abuchi Nwozor and his counterpart at the Rotary club of Awka, Rotarian Evelyn Ngozi Nworji Eke said that the feeding of people on the street especially during ceremonies that depict love is one of the cardinal functions of the Rotary International.
Rotarian Abuchi Nwozor and Nworji Eke while regretting the hardship the people are passing through, called on affluent individuals to always use their God giving wealth to impact on the people and advised government to map out far reaching measures that will improve the living standards of the people, even as they call on the People to join Rotary in order to help in human capital development.
Those who benefitted from the feeding people on the street initiative prayed God to replenish the pocket of their benefactors.
Highlights of the event were the distribution of the food items and words of encouragement and some financial support to the beneficiaries.
