Google experiences widespread outage and leaves thousands of users unable to access Gmail and cloud services across the United States

A sudden wave of problems has left thousands of Google users struggling to access their accounts on Thursday morning.

From email to cloud storage, people across the country reported being cut off from essential Google services, creating headaches for work, school, and personal tasks.

Widespread Login Problems Hit Major Cities

The issues appeared around 10:30am ET, according to online tracking sites, with cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle among the hardest hit.

Gmail users, in particular, struggled to connect to servers, meaning many could not send or receive emails, check their inboxes, or use linked services like scheduling, managing contacts, or joining video calls.

Google Cloud users also faced login failures, leaving businesses and developers unable to access apps, store data, or complete tasks remotely.

Users Report Outage While Google Dashboard Shows No Issues

Despite mounting reports from frustrated users, Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard did not reflect any ongoing problems.

The dashboard tracks Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Chrome, and the company’s AI tools, including Gemini.

Many users, however, expressed skepticism online. “Their status page shows no incidents… but… we all know there’s a problem,” one person commented on outage monitoring site Downdetector, capturing the mood of those affected.

Schools and Workplaces Face Disruptions

A significant number of impacted users were students or employees trying to access school and work accounts.

Some noted that if they were already logged in before the outage, they could continue using Google services, but logging out meant losing access entirely.

“All I can say is don’t log out if you have logged in successfully already,” one frustrated user advised.

Outage Spreads Across More States

By 11:30am ET, reports indicated the disruption had spread further, affecting users in Texas, Oregon, Virginia, Idaho, Colorado, and Alabama.

The situation remained ongoing as people waited for Google to acknowledge and resolve the problem.

What This Means for Users

The outage highlights how reliant millions are on Google services for communication, collaboration, and remote work.

Until the login issues are resolved, users may need to rely on alternative tools or remain logged in from previous sessions to avoid losing access.
