For those who thought the wait between Game of Thrones installments would always stretch on for years, 2026 is shaping up to be a very different story.HBO has finally confirmed the release dates for not one, but two spin-off series, making it the first time fans will get to enjoy two Westeros tales in the same year.
Spin-Off Number One: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
First up is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new series already in post-production and set to premiere in January 2026.
The show was initially expected to air earlier, but reports suggest a few reshoots delayed the schedule.
Still, fans won’t have to wait much longer to step back into the world of George R.R. Martin.
Spin-Off Number Two: House of the Dragon Season Three
The Westeros takeover doesn’t stop there. The third season of House of the Dragon, the prequel charting the fiery history of the Targaryen dynasty, has been confirmed for June 2026.
With both shows landing just months apart, it guarantees a packed year for fantasy television.
Fans React with Excitement
Unsurprisingly, the news set social media buzzing. One fan wrote, “We have never been more back!” Another called 2026 “officially a Thrones Year,” while a third summed it up simply: “2026 is looking great for entertainment.”
Could Westeros Head to the Big Screen?
Alongside the TV announcements, whispers continue about Westeros possibly expanding to cinema screens.
Last year, reports suggested Warner Bros. was laying the groundwork for at least one film.
While there’s no cast, director, or script yet, insiders say the studio is enthusiastic about exploring the Seven Kingdoms on a larger scale.
Interestingly, original showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had once imagined ending Game of Thrones with a theatrical trilogy rather than the divisive TV finale in 2019.
George R.R. Martin himself hinted at film possibilities as far back as 2014, and HBO has previously experimented with special theater screenings of key episodes.
The Jon Snow Spin-Off That Never Was
One project that won’t be moving forward is the much-discussed Jon Snow sequel.
Kit Harington, who played the fan-favorite character, confirmed earlier this year that plans for the spin-off had been shelved.
Speaking about it, he admitted he stayed quiet during development to avoid premature speculation:
“I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed… when it may never happen.
Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it, and currently, it’s not.”
What’s Next for the Thrones Universe
Even without Jon Snow’s return, the Thrones universe looks far from finished.
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon both landing in 2026, and talk of a feature film still alive, fans can expect Westeros to remain a major force in entertainment.
