Liverpool secures Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for £35million as defender prepares to join Anfield

Liverpool’s summer spending spree continues as the club secures two major signings on a single day. In a whirlwind of transfer activity, the Premier League champions have agreed deals for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, signaling a serious intent to strengthen the squad for the season ahead.

Marc Guehi Set to Join Liverpool

The Reds have agreed a £35million deal to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield.

Guehi, who scored a fitting goal in his final appearance for Crystal Palace against Aston Villa, is currently undergoing his medical ahead of a five-year contract.

Negotiations had hit a temporary snag after Palace held out for closer to £40m including add-ons, but sources confirmed to Daily Mail Sport that both clubs were close to a breakthrough.

The England international, capped 23 times, was keen on the move, making it clear he wanted to join Liverpool.

Palace’s Stand on Guehi

Despite the deal, Palace head coach Oliver Glasner had previously insisted the club could not sell Guehi so close to the season’s start.

“He’s so professional and it was clear he would play today,” Glasner said after Palace’s 3-0 win.

“It’s not about me; we need to keep Marc to play a successful season. We agreed we could sell him if we had the right replacement in place, but that hasn’t happened yet. That’s why we can’t sell him right now.”

Guehi himself remained focused on the team’s performance rather than his uncertain future.

“All I know is when you score goals like that it is always down to team performance,” he said.

“People may single out the goal, but it was a clear team effort tonight.”

Alexander Isak Joins Liverpool in Record Deal

Liverpool didn’t stop there. The club has also agreed a deal to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a staggering £125m, which could rise to £130m with add-ons.

The striker is set to sign a six-year contract and has reportedly completed his medical checks.

Newcastle’s Saudi owners initially tried to persuade Isak to stay, with a senior delegation visiting the player’s home to make a final appeal.

In the end, it became clear the move to Liverpool was inevitable, even after the club’s opening £110m bid was initially rejected.

A Big Day for Liverpool’s Ambitions

With these two signings, Liverpool’s summer spending has now reached £160m, highlighting their ambition to reinforce both defence and attack.

The additions of Guehi and Isak are expected to provide immediate impact and signal that the Reds are preparing to defend their Premier League crown and compete on all fronts this season.
