Amanda Seyfried nearly falls on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival while attending the premiere of her new film The Testament of Ann Lee

Amanda Seyfried turned heads at the Venice Film Festival this week, but not just for her stunning gown.

The 39-year-old Mamma Mia star nearly took a tumble as she made her way up the red carpet stairs for the premiere of her new film, The Testament of Ann Lee.

Dressed in a strapless satin navy and red gown with a dramatic red bow on the bodice and a hidden red lining revealed with each step, Amanda had to grab her co-star for support after nearly falling backward.

She quickly laughed off the mishap alongside Viola Prettejohn, showing off her good humor despite the awkward moment.

Fun and Flair on the Carpet

Aside from the stumble, Amanda’s energy on the red carpet was infectious.

She playfully engaged with photographers and exuded glamour throughout the event, proving she could handle the high-pressure festival environment with style and poise.

Amanda’s Wicked Ambition

Earlier this year, Amanda opened up about a role she had dreamed of for years — Elphaba in Wicked.

On the Backstage In the Envelope podcast, she revealed she had auditioned six times for the part.

“I’m in that privileged spot where I just don’t have to audition,” she said.

“But I wanted this role so badly, I auditioned like six times. Because it had to feel really right. I loved it.”

On another podcast, Happy Sad Confused, Amanda added that preparing for the auditions had given her a level of vocal confidence she had never felt before.

She also treasured the opportunity to perform with Cynthia Erivo, calling it a special experience in itself.

Learning from Near Misses

Amanda didn’t get cast as Glinda — the role went to Ariana Grande — but she has made peace with it and praised Ariana’s performance.

“I think everything happens for a reason,” she said.

Amanda also reflected on passing up the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy more than a decade ago.

At the time, she worried about taking a risk with a superhero movie featuring a talking tree and raccoon, fearing it could flop and hurt her career.

“I thought this was going to be Marvel’s first bomb,” she admitted, “but I was wrong.”

A Career Full of Choices

From Emmy-winning performances in The Dropout to high-profile auditions and near-misses, Amanda has navigated her career with honesty and self-awareness.

She openly acknowledges the risks and missed opportunities but remains grateful for the roles and experiences she’s had, showing that even near-misses can be stepping stones in a thriving career.
