Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano were left in deep shock and mourning on Saturday following a brutal attack that claimed the lives of seven people.
Among the victims was a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children, who were reportedly killed in their own home.
Horrific Details of the Attack
According to police reports, unknown assailants broke into the family’s residence and inflicted fatal injuries using dangerous weapons.
The violent act unfolded around midday, sending the neighborhood into panic.
CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, confirmed that the police received a distress call at about 12:10 pm on January 17, alerting them to the attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
Swift Police Response
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, quickly dispatched a team to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
Authorities worked to evacuate the victims to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, but tragically, all seven were pronounced dead on arrival.
“The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were confirmed dead upon arrival,” Kiyawa stated.
Investigation Underway
In response to the attack, the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been tasked with leading a thorough investigation.
The goal is to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
The state police command expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State, promising that justice will be pursued.
Community Calls for Better Security
The tragedy has left the Dorayi Chiranchi community reeling, with many residents calling for increased security measures to prevent such violent incidents from happening again.
This attack comes amid similar reports of violence in Kano, including the recent stabbing death of Abdurrauf Sheriff, a volunteer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who was also tragically killed by hoodlums in the city.
