Hollywood is no stranger to celebrity matchmakings, but sometimes even the glitziest setups don’t go as planned.
Sara Foster, the 44-year-old daughter of legendary composer David Foster, recently revealed a personal story about a high-profile date that… didn’t quite hit the mark.
Speaking candidly on The World’s First Podcast with her sister Erin, Foster shared her experience being set up with none other than George Clooney—an encounter she calls “a total flop.”
The Setup That Fell Flat
Foster explained that Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber had played matchmaker when she was about 24.
The four of them actually met in person, but Foster immediately felt the chemistry was missing.
“It was just such a hard no,” she recalled.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, he is so old.’”
Her blunt honesty didn’t end there.
“I got set up with George Clooney, like, 30 years ago. It was such a blah. Sorry, had to say it,” she admitted, laughing at the memory.
Daily Mail reached out to representatives for Clooney and Crawford for comment, but no responses were received.
Reflections on Age Gaps
The experience led Foster to reflect on age-gap relationships more broadly.
She revealed that the dynamic has never personally appealed to her.
“I’ve never understood a 19-year-old that’s into a 40-year-old. I just always thought that was so weird,” she said.
“I always say that when I see these young girls dating older guys… yes, sometimes it makes sense, but it’s never really resonated with me.”
She even admitted feeling a bit “offended” by the attempt, simply because Clooney felt so much older to her at the time.
An Awkward, Emotional Evening
Foster also set the record straight about how the encounter went.
“I also think it wasn’t George being like, ‘Oh, set me up with Sara Foster.’ I think it was more like Rande and Cindy being like, ‘We know someone great,’” she explained.
The night quickly took an emotional turn when Foster started opening up about her ex-boyfriend.
“I think he was like, ‘This chick’s not OK,’” she said, laughing. “I started crying about my ex to him, and I think that probably made it even more awkward.”
She described the experience as downright depressing at the time, admitting she was already feeling sad over her past relationship.
“Then here’s this one who just feels like a grandpa. It was depressing. I was so depressed,” Foster recalled.
Finding Love on Her Own Terms
Foster eventually moved on from both her ex and the brief Clooney encounter, finding a lasting relationship with tennis star Tommy Haas.
They met in the mid-2000s through mutual friends, quickly became inseparable, and got engaged in 2009, though they never officially married.
“We were basically married,” Foster said, noting that they had been together since she was 25, and their lives were completely intertwined.
The couple remains focused on co-parenting their daughters, Valentina and Josephine, following news of their split in August 2024.
Clooney’s Romantic Journey
Meanwhile, George Clooney’s romantic history is well documented.
Before settling down, he was linked to several high-profile women, including Elisabetta Canalis, Stacy Keibler, and Sarah Larson.
Known for his charm and privacy, he was one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors for years.
Clooney finally married human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, 47, in September 2014.
The couple shares twins Alexander and Ella, now eight, and George has spoken openly about how meeting Amal changed his perspective on love and life.
