Sara Foster Reveals She Went on an Awkward Date with George Clooney in Hollywood That Left Her Feeling Uncomfortable and Heartbroken

Sara Foster has plenty of stories from growing up around fame, but one dating tale still makes her cringe decades later.

The actress and podcaster, now 44, recently revealed that she was once awkwardly set up with George Clooney — and it went about as badly as a blind date possibly could.

Speaking candidly with her sister Erin on The World’s First Podcast, Foster described the experience as unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

According to her, the idea came courtesy of supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, who thought they were doing everyone a favor by playing matchmaker.

“It Was Just a Hard No”

Sara didn’t mince words when recalling the encounter.

She said she was around 24 at the time, and the four of them actually met face-to-face.

From the moment they sat down, she knew something was off.

“There was no spark. None,” she admitted, adding that her immediate reaction was shock at the age difference.

Clooney, already a well-established star back then, simply felt far too old for her.

The connection, if it ever existed on paper, evaporated in real life.

Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Clooney and Crawford for comment, but no response has been received.

Why Age-Gap Romance Never Clicked for Her

The conversation naturally drifted into a bigger discussion about age-gap relationships, especially in Hollywood, where they’re almost normalized.

Foster said she’s never fully understood the appeal of very young women dating much older men.

While she acknowledged that some relationships genuinely work, she made it clear that dynamic never resonated with her.

The idea of a teenager being romantically interested in someone twice their age has always struck her as strange, not glamorous.

Feeling “Offended” by the Matchmaking Attempt

Looking back, Foster said she was actually offended that her friends thought the pairing made sense.

To her, Clooney didn’t feel like a potential boyfriend — he felt more like someone’s dad.

She described sitting at the table thinking the entire situation was emotionally unbearable.

At the time, she was still heartbroken over an ex, which only amplified the discomfort.

The evening quickly turned from awkward to downright depressing.

Tears at the Table and an Early Exit

As if the setup wasn’t uncomfortable enough, Foster confessed that she ended up crying about her ex during the encounter.

She joked that Clooney probably walked away thinking she was emotionally unwell.

She also clarified one important point: she doesn’t believe Clooney ever requested the date.

In her view, it was Crawford and Gerber enthusiastically suggesting they “knew someone perfect,” without realizing how mismatched the situation truly was.

Moving On to a Life That Actually Made Sense

Thankfully, the failed Clooney moment didn’t define Foster’s love life.

Not long after, she found something real with former professional tennis player Tommy Haas.

The two met through friends in the mid-2000s and quickly became inseparable.

They were together for nearly two decades, got engaged in 2009, and shared a life that Foster once described as “basically married.”

Though they never officially tied the knot, they built a family together and welcomed two daughters, Valentina and Josephine.

The couple confirmed their split in August 2024 but have remained focused on co-parenting.

Clooney’s Long Road to Love

Clooney, meanwhile, was famously Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor for years.

His dating history included several high-profile relationships with women like Elisabetta Canalis, Stacy Keibler, and Sarah Larson, cementing his reputation as charming, elusive, and happily unattached.

That chapter finally closed in 2014 when he married human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.

Since then, he has frequently spoken about how meeting Amal changed everything.

The couple share eight-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, and Clooney has said that family life gave him a perspective he never knew he was missing.

An Awkward Memory That Still Gets a Laugh

Today, Foster can laugh about the disastrous setup — even if it still makes her shudder a little.

What was meant to be a glamorous Hollywood moment turned into a reminder that chemistry can’t be forced, no matter how famous the names involved.

And sometimes, even George Clooney just isn’t the right guy.
