Nigerian Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye Urges Abuja Residents and Women to Avoid Free Rides from Strangers Amid Rising Criminal Activities

Abuja residents, especially women, are being urged to exercise extreme caution when accepting rides from strangers.

The warning comes as part of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle rising criminal activities in the city.

Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, made the appeal on Friday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The group included members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, NBA Women Forum, and Unity Bar.

Stay Alert When Boarding Vehicles

Speaking during the visit, Dantawaye highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant while using public transport.

He specifically advised residents to carefully consider the vehicles they board and avoid accepting unsolicited lifts from unknown individuals.

A statement by FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, noted, “The CP emphasised the need for collective responsibility, timely sharing of information, and public cooperation to prevent and dismantle opportunistic criminal operations across the Territory.”

Investigation into the Killing of Ms Princess Ochigbo

The police also took the opportunity to express condolences to the legal community over the tragic killing of their colleague, Ms Princess Ochigbo.

Dantawaye assured the NBA delegation that discreet and extensive investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for her death.

According to reports, Ochigbo’s body was discovered along the Kubwa Expressway on Tuesday.

Her personal belongings, including her bag and identification card, were found a few meters away from the scene.

Available documents indicate that she may have been a staff member of the FCT High Court.

Detectives have already commenced work on the case, and the police reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Rising Concerns Over Targeted Killings

The warning and ongoing investigations come shortly after another tragic incident—the murder of a nurse, Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, at the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi.

Her death sparked outrage from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, FCT Council, highlighting growing concerns over public safety and targeted attacks in the capital.
