Even though Love Island has wrapped up for the season, the sunny, relaxed style of the male islanders isn’t going anywhere.

Marks & Spencer has stepped in to help men nail that effortless summer look with a brand-new line of shirts designed to be both stylish and comfortable.

From Linen to Knits, Shirts for Every Summer Occasion

M&S’s latest range covers everything from loose-fitting linen shirts and cooling cotton jerseys to knitted styles, all of which can be worn buttoned up or left open for a more relaxed vibe.

Whether it’s long sleeves for a dinner out or short sleeves for beachside lounging, the line is versatile enough to dress up or down.

Celebrity Inspiration Behind the Looks

The collection draws inspiration from style icons like Paul Mescal, Callum Turner, and Miles Teller.

Mescal, 29, famous for Normal People, has been spotted in pale blue button-downs that set the tone for relaxed summer dressing.

Turner, 35, has also been turning heads on Instagram in pale blue striped shirts, leaving a few top buttons undone for a breezy, European-sunshine feel.

Even Miles Teller, 38, popularized the loose-fitting look back in 2019 at the Cannes Film Festival with his yellow and cream floral shirt.

M&S has mirrored these trends with pieces like their Regular Fit Pure Linen Striped Shirt (£45) and a blue linen shirt with tonal textured panels (£38), combining style with comfort.

Love Island and the High-Street Effect

The trend isn’t limited to celebrities. Male islanders embraced the casual, relaxed look, prompting a surge in style searches.

Pinterest reports a 600% increase for “men’s open shirt style,” while online searches for “M&S Men’s Shirts” have jumped 100% this month.

Clearly, shoppers are ready to bring a bit of that sun-soaked island flair home.

Short Shorts Make a Big Comeback

M&S isn’t stopping at shirts. The retailer has also embraced the “short shorts” trend, inspired by Mescal, Harry Styles, and even Chris Pine.

July saw the release of shorts with inner seams as short as three inches, ranging from £15 to £30, designed for everything from holiday lounging to smart-casual outfits.

According to Bounce Insights, 66% of men like the short shorts trend, and 46% plan to buy a pair this summer.

Paul Mescal told GQ that proportion is key, pairing shorter shorts with a longer top for balance.

High-fashion labels like Gucci have echoed the trend, showcasing bold colors and cropped silhouettes on the runway.

From London to Los Angeles, the Trend Goes Global

Harry Styles has been photographed sporting tiny shorts around London, while Chris Pine made headlines in the U.S. for cutting his summer shorts to a strikingly short length.

M&S appears to have fully embraced the movement with its new thigh-high collection, offering the shortest men’s shorts in the retailer’s history.
