Experts Claim Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Sign a Downgraded Multi Year Netflix Deal Compared to Their Original Contract in the United States

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made headlines again with the announcement of their new multi-year deal with Netflix.

But rather than being the blockbuster partnership fans might have expected, industry insiders suggest this latest agreement is more of a cautious step forward — and not nearly as lucrative as their original contract.

What Is the New ‘First Look’ Deal About?

Unlike their previous deal, which reportedly promised the Sussexes around $100 million, this new agreement gives Netflix the “first look” at their upcoming film and TV projects.

That means Netflix gets first dibs to decide whether they want to invest in each project — but they’re not committed to funding everything Harry and Meghan propose.

PR expert Mark Borkowski told the Daily Mail this shift feels like a “downgrade” for the couple.

He explained that Netflix is now much more selective, moving away from what he calls the “jackpot figure” of their 2020 contract.

Experts Suggest the Couple Will Be Paid Per Project Instead of a Big Overall Sum

Borkowski believes the Sussexes will get paid only for the projects Netflix greenlights, rather than receiving a large lump sum up front.

He said, “I would be surprised if it’s not pay-as-you-go and well below that first mark.”

It’s a sign Netflix wants to avoid risking huge budgets without guaranteed returns — and is tightening its purse strings industry-wide.

What Projects Are Still in the Pipeline?

Despite the more cautious deal, Harry and Meghan aren’t stepping back entirely.

Their upcoming slate includes a second season of Meghan’s lifestyle show With Love, Meghan coming later this month, plus a Christmas special in December.

They’re also working on a documentary called Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, which shines a light on orphaned children in Uganda affected by the HIV/Aids crisis.

In addition, other projects are in development, including a romantic adaptation of the novel Meet Me At The Lake.

Why Is This Deal Considered a ‘Slimmed-Down Sequel’?

Mark Borkowski described the new Netflix contract as less of a “champagne budget” and more like “Prosecco by the glass.”

The golden goose of 2020, he says, has been shot, and Netflix is being far more careful now.

He added, “This is more of a ‘we’ll call you’ than a ‘here’s the chequebook’ situation.”

The streaming giant wants control over what it finances, rather than funding everything the Sussexes dream up.

The Couple’s Netflix Partnership So Far

Since their 2020 deal, Netflix has released several projects featuring Harry and Meghan, including With Love, Meghan, Polo, Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, and the explosive documentary Harry & Meghan.

They’ve also been business partners with Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Five years ago, their $100 million contract made waves as one of the biggest celebrity deals in streaming history.

Now, the new arrangement signals a more measured and selective partnership.

What Do Meghan and Netflix Say About the Deal?

Meghan Markle expressed pride in continuing their work with Netflix, saying, “We’re proud to extend our partnership and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand.”

Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, also shared enthusiasm: “We’re excited to continue our partnership.”

What’s Next for Harry and Meghan’s Netflix Journey?

While this deal might not be the blockbuster payday of their first contract, it still keeps the Sussexes in the Netflix spotlight.

Fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how the couple’s content evolves under these new, more selective terms.
