It’s that time of year again—college students packing up and heading back to campus.

But before Suri Cruise returns to Carnegie Mellon University for her sophomore year, she made time for something sweet and personal: a visit to her mom Katie Holmes on a movie set in New York City.

A Mother-Daughter Moment on Set

Suri Cruise was all smiles on Thursday afternoon as she showed up to support her mom at work.

Katie Holmes is currently filming her latest project, Happy Hour, and the outdoor shoot near a New York City park turned into a casual, feel-good family moment.

Suri, now 19 and going by “Suri Noelle,” looked relaxed yet stylish in a white tank top tucked into olive green cargo pants.

She paired the look with red sneakers and carried a brown shoulder bag.

With a sun-kissed glow, she looked every bit the confident young woman she’s becoming.

Holmes, 46, was dressed in costume—wearing a multicolored dress layered over jeans and her hair tossed up in a messy bun.

She held a script in one hand and stayed close to her daughter in between takes.

Suri Prepares for Year Two at Carnegie Mellon

This quick city visit comes just weeks before Suri is due back on campus.

According to Carnegie Mellon University’s registrar, the fall semester begins August 25, with classes kicking off on campus that same day.

Suri started her college journey at the Pittsburgh-based university in 2024 after graduating from the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York.

Though her specific major hasn’t been confirmed, it’s been rumored she’s leaning toward a path in fashion—unsurprising, given her creative background.

A source close to the family recently described Suri as smart, focused, and grounded: “She’s turning into a very intelligent, mature young woman.

She’s got a strong circle of loyal friends and knows exactly where she comes from.”

Her Voice Made Its Debut in One of Katie’s Films

Suri’s talents go beyond style—she’s also shown she has some musical chops.

In 2022, she sang a cover of the 1934 classic “Blue Moon” for the opening of Alone Together, a film directed by her mother.

Katie, speaking about the moment to Yahoo! Entertainment, said she simply asked Suri to do it because “she’s very talented.”

As a director, Katie preferred to give her space: “I let her do her thing.

That’s how I direct. I tell everyone what I think the vision is and then let them go with it.”

A Full Circle Moment with Joshua Jackson

Katie Holmes isn’t just returning to film—she’s also reuniting with an old friend.

Happy Hour reunites her with Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson, and the nostalgia is real.

Holmes recently took to Instagram to gush: “Working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship.”

The two starred alongside each other on Dawson’s Creek, which aired from 1998 to 2003.

Off-camera, Katie and Joshua also had a romantic relationship during the early years of the show. Holmes once called him her first love in a Rolling Stone interview, saying, “It was something so incredible and indescribable.”

Though their romance didn’t last, the friendship clearly did.

Katie shared how much she continues to admire him, both as a friend and a professional. Joshua, who later married actress Jodie Turner-Smith in 2019, divorced in 2023 and has recently been linked to actress Lupita Nyong’o.

A Look Back at Katie and Tom’s Past

Of course, no update on Suri Cruise can skip her famous father—Tom Cruise.

Katie Holmes and Tom started dating in 2005, got engaged just seven weeks later, and married in a lavish Italian ceremony in November 2006.

Suri was born seven months before the wedding.

Their relationship ended in 2012 when Katie filed for divorce, which was finalized in just ten days.

She was granted primary custody of Suri, while Cruise was given visitation rights.

Notably, he hasn’t been publicly photographed with his daughter in over 12 years.

According to reports, Cruise paid Katie $4.8 million in child support throughout Suri’s upbringing.

What’s Next for Suri and Katie?

While Suri heads back to college soon, Katie is deep in production on her trilogy Happy Hour, a story focused on love and marriage.

And though Suri may be stepping into adulthood, it’s clear that she and her mom are as close as ever.

From movie sets to college dorms, their journey is one of quiet strength, creativity, and a bond that’s clearly unbreakable.
