If you’re under 40 and working on a fresh, impactful idea in artificial intelligence — especially one that can transform public services — the BRICS Young Innovator Prize is calling your name.

This year, the competition is heating up in Brasília, Brazil, as part of the 10th BRICS Young Scientist Forum, happening from September 15 to 17, 2025.

And with big prize money on the table, it’s more than just bragging rights.

The Focus This Year: AI for Public Good

This isn’t your average tech contest. The spotlight in 2025 is on Artificial Intelligence applied to Public Service Solutions.

That means projects should demonstrate how emerging technologies like AI can genuinely improve life in BRICS countries — whether it’s healthcare, education, governance, transportation, or any other public-facing sector.

Important note: if your project doesn’t fit this theme, it won’t make the cut.

Are You Eligible?

Before diving in, make sure you tick these boxes:

  • You must be under 40 years old by December 31, 2025

  • You need to be the original creator of the project

  • You must be from or permanently residing in a BRICS country (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa)

  • Only one project submission is allowed per person

What Kind of Projects Are They Looking For?

Innovation is key here. Your project should still be in its pre-market stage — meaning it’s not yet commercially available.

It can be in the testing phase, going through certifications, or getting ready for launch, but not something already up for sale.

Also:

  • No corporate projects — If you’re developing something as part of your job for a tech company, that’s a no-go.

  • Your project must be independent — It shouldn’t be tied to or in the process of merging with any existing tech company.

  • Most importantly, the innovation should tackle a real-world problem — something that can bring positive change to society, the economy, or the environment in BRICS nations.

What’s in It for You? The Prize Breakdown

Winners not only earn international recognition, but also walk away with serious financial support:

  • First Prize – $25,000

  • Second Prize – $15,000

  • Third Prize – $10,000

All winners will receive their prize after proper verification and provided they meet all eligibility rules.

Here’s What You Need to Submit

To apply, make sure you prepare the following materials:

  • A completed and signed application form

  • Your CV or short biography

  • A photo of yourself (must be larger than 250×300 pixels)

  • Detailed project information and research data — this can include Word docs, PowerPoint slides, photos, or even video clips showcasing your work
